The rediscovery of a forgotten figure in modern photography: Beginning in 1929 the German architect Fritz Block (1889–1955) made a name for himself as a passionate photographer of New Objectivity and the New Vision. He was also known for his lively travel reportages from Paris and New York. As a Jew, Block emigrated to the US in 1938. In Los Angeles he then produced innovative color slides as media for progressive art education, particularly focusing on images of California’s modernist architecture. Spanning the eras of New Photography in Europe and color photography in America, his work is presented in this monograph for the first time.
We are delighted that books from both Park Books and Scheidegger & Spiess made it on the list of the 25 Most Beautiful German Books 2018: Auftritt Appenzell, American Readers at Home, and New Housing in Zurich.
Congratulations to the designers Antje Kolm, Diego Bontognali and Valeria Bonin from Bonbon, Ludovic Balland, and all others who have contributed to this success!
The bookstore Never Stop Reading is located in Zurich's old town, only a few steps from the Kunsthaus, the University, and ETH. The store features a broad range of international publications on architecture, photography, art, and design, as well as a section of general-interest English books. The new spaces can be used for small exhibitions and we'll be hosting a diverse program of book launches, readings, panel discussions . . . We're looking forward to seeing you there!
