Atout Coeur. Nachlass von Brigitte Mavromichalis

Brigitte Mavromichalis wurde 1926 in Stockholm in eine Familie der höheren schwedischen Gesellschaft geboren und mit 20 Jahren von ihren Eltern für eine akademische Ausbildung in die Schweiz geschickt. Nach dem Tod ihres Gatten 1982 widmete Mavromichalis sich weiterhin ihrer Leidenschaft für Kunst, Musik und Sport, glänzte auf internationalem Niveau im Bridge-Spiel und war bis zu ihrem Tod 2015 als diskrete Mäzenin tätig.
Ihre über die Jahrzehnte gewachsene Kunstsammlung stellte sie in vollkommener Freiheit und wiederum frei von Hierarchien hinsichtlich Formen, Stilen und Personen zusammen. Die Sammlung bestand hauptsächlich aus Gemälden, umfasste aber auch Zeichnungen und Druckgrafiken und zeichnete sich durch grosse Vielfalt aus.
Es porträtiert die Sammlerin und ihr Legat: In 45 Beiträgen betrachten und erläutern ausgewiesene Kunsthistorikerinnen und Kunsthistoriker jedes einzelne Werk.

Mittendrin. Gespräche mit Pfarrer Christoph Sigrist

Unter dem Titel Mittendrin denkt Christoph Sigrist, bis 2024 viele Jahre Pfarrer am Zürcher Grossmünster, über Fragen nach, die Jung und Alt beschäftigen. Dies in Form von zwölf Gesprächen mit der Journalistin und Autorin Ursula Eichenberger, die im Kreuzgang des Grossmünsters, einer Oase der Ruhe mitten in der hektischen Innenstadt Zürichs, geführt wurden. Inhalt der Gespräche sind Themen unserer Zeit: Einsamkeit, Überforderung, Hoffnung, Humor, Stille, Liebe, Politik, Zugehörigkeit, Theologie.

In den Jahren seines Wirkens ist Sigrist eine bekannte Figur des öffentlichen Lebens in der Schweiz geworden, durch seine Präsenz im Diskurs und auch durch sein gesellschaftliches Engagement.

Magdalena Abakanowicz à Lausanne

As a pioneer of the Nouvelle Tapisserie movement, Polish artist Magdalena Abakanowicz (1930-2017) revolutionized the practice of weaving in the 1960s and elevated it to the status of sculptural expression. Her spectacular and monumental woven wall and room works shaped several editions of the Biennale des Tapisserie, which took place in Lausanne between 1962 and 1995, and made her internationally renowned.

This book sheds light on the decisive role played by the city of Lausanne at the beginning of Magdalena Abakanowicz’s international career and in her artistic research.

Collective Threads. Anna Andreeva at the Red Rose Silk Factory

Anna Andreeva (1917–2008) was a Soviet textile designer and leading artist at the famous Red Rose Silk Factory in Moscow from 1944 to 1984. The former Giraud silk factory, nationalized in 1919 after the October Revolution and renamed to commemorate the murdered Polish-German socialist revolutionary Rosa Luxemburg, became a site of collective female design labor that shaped the fashion and material culture of late socialism.

Collective Threads contributes to the recent intensive interest in textile art by continuing the feminist emphasis on woman makers but shifting the focus from handmade women’s craft to a different model of industrial-scale textile production deliberately organized along collective lines within the Communist system. Essays contributed by international scholars, curators, and critics place Andreeva’s work and career in a historical and artistic context.
